Pair of lacquered ryoshibako and suzuribako boxes with leafy vines
Set consisting of a ryoshibako (paper or letter box) and a suzuribako (writing box), decorated with foliate branches.
The set consists of two coordinated containers, a ryoshibako intended for storing papers and documents and a suzuribako designed for writing instruments. The two elements share the same decorative language, built on a warm and speckled lacquered background, animated by foliate branches and tendrils that develop with a sinuous pattern on the outer surfaces.
The different scale of the two objects emphasizes their functional complementarity, while the coherence of the design reveals a unitary concept of the set. The presence of the black wooden tomobako, one of which bears the inscription "Go" (五, five), adds documentary and collectible interest to the ensemble.
