Japanese Imari potiche with lid
Large Japanese Imari potiche with lid and a Foo dog finial.
This important potiche stands out for its large size, the presence of the lid with a Foo dog finial, and the richness of its polychrome decoration. The body, elegantly tapered downwards and characterized by faceted or paneled surfaces, features floral motifs, birds, and ornamental reserves that follow one another with a remarkable compositional rhythm.
The upper part of the vase, with its articulated neck and octagonal or faceted joint, contributes to giving the whole a strong architectural personality. The contrast between the white of the porcelain, the intense blue, and the iron red, enriched with gilded details, immediately defines the aesthetic language of Imari porcelain.
