Byōbu with Pines and Red Sun
Byōbu (屏風) with six panels
The screen features a continuous expanse of Japanese pines stretching across all six panels, creating a compact and monumental landscape backdrop. At the center of the composition, a large red sun disk emerges, suspended against the gold background, dominating the whole and giving the work immediate visual power. The construction relies on the dialogue between three main elements—the green of the pines, the red of the sun, and the gold of the background—arranged in a decorative synthesis of great elegance. The tree canopies, punctuated by vertical mounts, unify the surface and transform the rhythm of the panels into an integral part of the composition.
